The SU carburetor is one of the longest running automotive designs in the world. Designed and patented by George Herbert Skinner in 1905 and produced in various sizes and forms until the 1980's, their production life was close to 80 years. This remarkably simple design uses engine manifold vacuum, modulated by a butterfly valve, to regulate air and fuel entering the intake track.

In recent years it has become harder and more expensive to find air filters for autos equipped with SU carburetors. Even the disposable stamped steel/paper element filters are in the realm of 70USD for two, these are not reusable and are only good for 12,000 miles at the maximum. Our filters are washable and replaceable for a virtually unlimited service life. Our filters are also machined from 6061 billet aluminum and include a 10mm air horn in all filters (other length horns are available also). Another advantage of our design is that once installed the back plate never needs to be removed for routine carburetor or air filter element maintenance. If you have SU's that have the non-threaded mounting holes you will soon come to appreciate this feature!

The elements chosen for our filters are from UNI and are 2 stage foam elements with an interior wire frame for support. For those not familiar with the Uni elements they have been used for many years in the most demanding applications with great success. I have used the Uni 'sock' filters in dirt track racing applications and have been amazed at their ability to filter out the extremely fine dust that is produced in a racing environment. When it comes time to "tear down" the top end of a two stroke racing bike and there is ZERO grit adhering to the oily interior of the carb you quickly becomes a believer in this system.

All of our air filters are precision machined on multi-axis CNC machining centers. these machines have a positional accuracy of .0002" (.005mm), all parts for each unit are machined from the same billet, there are no stamped steel parts. The fit and finish of our products derives from this ability to keep the "stack" of manufacturing tolerances to an absolute minimum.
